How to Avoid Craigslist Spammers

If you are posting on Cl, or answering and ad, make sure to take the following steps:

1) Only respond to emails that come from email providers that allow you to see the Full Header of the email. The full header allows you to see the IP address of the original sender.

2) Do not accept email from Gmail; Gmail does not have IP address tracking and many spammers know this and Gmail is becoming very popular world-wide for spammers.

3) Use ARIN.NET to track the sender's IP address. If the IP address is from somewhere out of the country, or from a strange area within the U.S, it is probably a spammer.

4) Always ask for their phone number.

How to use Arin.net:

Go to http://www.arin.net/index.shtml and plug the Originating IP address of the email into the 'search who is' box and voila! You have the info of the network that the sender is using.

If you are receiving emails at this time that are spam, use this info to track the network they are using and report it to the network.
